Wow. The forces of nature are mighty. Had a huge line of thunderstorms roll through last saturday. Rain so hard you couldn't see across the street and frequent lightning. Maddie was hyper-alert and jumpy, and Ivy spent most of the evening *under* the couch. She really hates thuderstorms. Turns out we took a lightning strike right between the neighbor's house and ours. Blew out a couple of light bulbs and toasted one half of a light fixture in our house. Blasted our neighbor's phone line and DVD player. The biggest casualty, though, was our central air unit. Compressor shorted right down to the ground and a blown blower motor. It's dead, Jim. Anyway, we've got the fans out and are getting by. The guys come in tomorrow to install the new unit.
The one major benefit of the heat around here is that Maddie and Ivy have been too hot to get pissy with each other. It's been a very quiet week as the cats crash in front of their favorite fan or window. Here's Ivy on a massive snooze in a cool, breezy spot by the open window:
Maddie tends to crash on the couch that catches the best breeze from a fan. This week has been hard on her poor little long-haired self. Here she is getting her tummy cooled (please note that this is not a brief stretch; this is a full-on tummy baring comfy-snooze):
Kindly ignore the evidence of my geek-ness. I've been trying to teach Maddie to play, but she just rolls the dice and doesn't even look at the numbers...
UPDATE: The AC guys came in and replaced just about everything. It was a big financial hit, but hey, we've got AC just in time for the week with temps forecast well into the 90's, with heat indices well into the 100's. Of course, someone's always a critic. Maddie now tells us it's way too cold in here:
Sometimes cats just can't seem to make up their minds. Hot or cold, in or out....

Woohoo ! Another RPG-er ! And may I comment on the purr-fect behaviour of your feline friends. At least they know what's important on a hot day...
