Well, the mystery of Ivy's random LOUD late-night yowls may be solved. Last week, Lady Ranger had a nasty cold. To prevent me from catching said bug, she decided to sleep on the futon-couch in the sitting room and spend the night with Ivy. The wee tuxedo kitty was silent all night, save for the late night sounds of snacking. Does she yowl just because she wants company?
When I checked in in the morning, Ivy was sound asleep right next to Lady Ranger's face. Awfully sweet.
We've been shutting the doors to her room at night to keep cat-conflict from breaking out while we sleep. If we let Ivy out to wander, though, and she wanders into the bedroom (without doubt, Maddie's territory) we'll have cat-conflict in stereo. THX even. Without Dolby noise-reduction (for you old-timers who know what that means...)
For the Maddie fans, here's another shot from the recent series I've taken of her on the couch in the sunlight:
Maddie's a very thoughtful cat. She pauses for contemplation between bouts of spastic, hyperactive, psycho-kitty playfulness. She also left a present for me as Lady Ranger and I prepared for our 15th anniversary dinner out. I went to put on my (seldom-used) dress shoes and noticed something in them. A hairball. An old, fossilised hairball. It's nice to know she cares. At least it wasn't something dead and dismembered.
It's good the mystery is solved. Feel Better to all! Beautiful as always photographs.

Territorial girls aren't they?
How sweet is that, Ivy sleeping by moms face!! I wish one of mine would sleep by me. Occasionally they will sit at the end of the bed like gargoyles.
Maddie, you are a beautiful girl. What a nice sunny perch!
