It's been a couple of weeks since the resident cat appeared in her own blog. Today, we remedy that.
Hello. How've you been? I've been bird-watching.
It's true. She's been gazing out the windows, chattering at the birds, picking fights. There is one bird in town, though, that Maddie wants no part of...
This is a red shouldered hawk. Lives with it's mate and young over by my parent's house about 5 miles aaway. Pugnacious looking beast, isn't it? Is it just me, or do these guys always look like they're in a foul mood. Perhaps it's the lack of feline in their diet. Anyways, Maddie's grateful that it hasn't come soaring around here.
Pshaw! I could take 'im. Easy. Hey, look, I'm gonna go around and make sure the windows are shut, okay? Why don't you make sure the roof is solid. When I'm done, I'm just gonna nap under the table or the papa-san. Just in case. Can't be too careful. If he came swooping in here, I might have to hurt 'im.
Maddie's probably not gonna be hurting anything anytime soon. We think one of her knees is getting a bit arthritic. She's sitting with her right back foot more forward that usual. She's walking fine. And running and jumping and scratching fine, but sitting oddly. Another topic for the senior kitty visit next month. Anyway, we'll keep Maddie safe from marauding avians, large and small.
You go, Girl!
I think you could take the critter, too! ;-D

We've been wanting to get our paws on a hawk too...even though our mom says only in our dreams....

Yeah Maddie! If that bird has any sense he'll avoid your house!
We hear a hooty owl sometimes in the woods across the street. One time, in winter, he was in a tree in our yard. Mom went out with the trash, and heard "whoo? whoo?" right above her. Looking up, there he was. He looked a bit melancholy.

That's a wonderful shot! How great is it, that you get birds of prey so close by? I have to go to the beach near my house for the *hope* of catching a glimpse of anything remotely this magnificent. lol.
Aw, Maddie... don't tangle with this one, sweetheart!

Hmmm ...
If we didn't know better, the hawk looks a bit like a squirrel.
