I don't see an email so I'll leave a comment here.
The barbituate I mentioned was Butalbital (generic for Fioricet.) I was given it as an alternative to Imitrex, which is a triptan like your Maxalt. Imitrex works but it really makes me weak and googly feeling and I really can only take it at night or if I can spare 2 hours to lie down in the dark after I take it.
This is the first time Fioricet did that to me, but it was only because I was an idiot and took too much on an empty stomach. It's uaually prescribed for tension headaches. I get both kinds, and a tension can turn into a migraine if left to mutate on its own. Nasty, stoopid headaches.
