One of our favorite Guest-Cats here at Chez-Ranger has always been Kitty-Kitty. He's a big ginger ball of friendly. The time has come for us to wish him a Hearty Bon Voyage, for he (and his family) have moved to Portland, Oregon.
Kitty-Kitty, also know as Scooby (no...not *that* Scooby) was perhaps the complete neighborhood cat. His territory ranged for a block or two around his yard and he visited it all regularly. He had 4 different feeding stations that I know of and enough warm, indoor bunks that I doubt he ever slept outdoors if he didn't want to. I know for a fact that he cared about his neighbors.
An elderly lady of the neighborhood, mostly bed-bound after a hospital trip, would have Kitty-Kitty come by and check on her. He stayed with her for several days, keeping an eye on. Several times a night he'd check on her breathing, take her temp, do a cat-scan and then, satisfied that she'd make it, settle down at the foot of the bed.
Once, sometime around 4:30 in the morning, as I was loading up the wagon to head out, I turned and found Kitty-Kitty sitting on our steps with his usual kind, curious smile on his face. He accepted some head pats, and hopped into the back of the car to inspect the packing job I'd done. Satisfied that I had a secure load, down he came and, after giving me some silent advice as to how to proceed with the day, sat on the steps until I'd driven off.
He is indeed a fine cat, and we wish him (and his family) the very best. I'm sure that, even now, he knows his neighborhood and all the people in it. I'm also sure that he has nothing but friends there. If you're in Portland and you read this blog and you see this cat tell him we said "hello!"
Go safely, old fellow. We'll miss you.
Most of us.
Thats Right! Keep on walking! Don't even turn around! G'wan! Scram! Scat! Split! Scurry! Scamper! GO AWAY!!
Ignore the dragon in the doorway. Bon Voyage!
Good job Maddie! You made that dude vamoose!
What a great cat Kitty Kitty (aka: not that Scooby) is!
What a wonderful visitor he was and the story about checking on the old lady is sweet. Seems like a grand old fellow and we hope he is safe in his new neighborhood.

What a sweetie! Our cat Scoop was like that. We moved 4 times and each time we did, Scoop was the first to meet the neighbours. Have a good trip, Kitty Kitty!
