We have a lovely old piece of furniture in our house. It's an old sideboard. Probably 3.5 feet tall and 5 feet long. Beautiful old, dark stained wood. Nicely detailed. LadyRanger and I saw it when we hit the furniture consignment shops in the search for a table for our 1st apartment kitchen. We saw this piece and immediately fell in love with it. We had no real plans for it in our apartment, and it was a big expense in our just-recently-married-budget, but we bought it, brought it home and put it in what passed for the living room in our old-house-apartment. I'm sure you've seen the furniture in the background of many cat-photos taken in the the dining room of our house.
It had developed a problem recently. The top drawer would not shut all the way. Being the handy-dandy (though extremely limited) fix-it-up-man that I am, I decided to give antique furniture repair a shot. I removed the drawer and immediately discovered the problem.
What?
Turns out, we have a cat.
Okay, it really turned out to be a piece of foam that had worked it's way back there. Thankfully, it was well within my capabilities to remove it, replace it securely in the drawer and replace the drawer.
Oh, you want to put that drawer back now? Nah. My cat-cave, now.
It was kinda funny. Daisy was in the open space faster that I can type it. This is one of the few places in the entire house in which she had not stretched out yet. We gave her a few minutes to enjoy her newfound lair.
Nice place, good view. Central heat and air. None of that awful '70's shag carpet and no wall paper. I'll take it! Have my agent call the realtor and make an offer!
Daisy lounged for a few minutes, then wandered down into the basement to see if the new Berlin Wall had somehow fallen. It hadn't and she was back up shortly thereafter. She has adjusted well to the renewed restriction on her wanderings. Maybe, if I start taking random drawers out of dressers, she'll forget that she ever wandered free outdoors for that brief, terrifying moment.
Probably not.
Have a safe and happy week ahead, all!
