HEY!! FIONA!!

I've tried to leave a comment on your blog a couple of times recently.  It hasn't worked.  If you could, leave me a note in the comments here and tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Of course, if I should shove off you're free to say that, too!

BTW:  D3.  Chomolungma#1809

If I'm up early and you're up late we can slay monsters together.

And to everyone else who sees this...I *am* a geek.

WooHoo!

Scooby is gone.

One of our favorite blog-friends has suffered a loss.  Lynne, of Little Cat Feet, has lost her gallant tuxedo boy Scooby.

Scooby

It was a sudden death, and Scooby spent the last of his life in Lynne's arms.  If you can, stop by to wish her family well.  We'll miss him.

Godspeed Scooby.

A Candidate We can Believe In

It's not often I let this blog get political, but I feel the time has come to change that policy.  At least for now.

Hank for Senate.

Hank is a 9 year old Maine Coon Cat running as an independent for the open U.S. Senate seat from Virginia.

25
His platform is simple:  job creation, support of spay/neuter programs and animal rescue, and civility in politics.  How can you not love those?

He's got a Twitter feed and a Facebook page.  He's got more "likes" than his Democratic opponent Tim Kaine and has his sights set on the Republican George Allen.

Despite the costs involved in running a modern, media-driven political campaign, Hank asks that donations be made to animal rescue organizations, like the one that saved him from the mean streets as a kitten.

He's even got an on-line add or two:

And, as proof that he's making the power brokers in Washington nervous, there's even an attack add aimed at him.

You may notice that the scurrilous add is paid for by a SuperPac called "Canines for a Feline Free Tomorrow".  Shock.

It's a pity that I can't vote for Hank (who received 9 write-in votes when he ran for a state senate seat last election). I'll be making a donation to a local group in his honor though.

Even Maddie supports Hank, despite the fact that he's another cat.  I think it's because he's a really handsome boy.

Vote Hank!

DST and Preparing for the Future and a blog note

Here's a new pick of Maddie on her couch, enjoying the early morning sun.  I think she's wondering why it showed up earlier than it's supposed to.  I haven't told her about the end of daylight savings time...

Misc 11-11 002
Stupid human.  Cats have no regard for your artificial temporal tricks.  It is *always* whatever time we want it to be.

Good point.

The Christmas holidays are approaching, so we'll be heading up to the Winter Palace soon.  Maddie's been having fits recently when we've put her in her carrier, since it's been for vet visits.  We've been trying to jolly her up about it by showing her old pics of her having fun at the Ranger-in-laws.

Misc 6-10 013
Well, I guess carpet is okay...but don't these people have another cat?

Misc 6-10 026
Yes.  Yes they do.  Mwa ha ha ha ha !!!!!

Oh dear...this should be....fun?

On a blogosphere-ish note:  Cute Overload ran a story a couple of weeks ago that we've been following.  It's about Sketches.  She's a Bengal kitten found half paralyzed, with her whiskers cut off, in a garbage bag.  She's got at least a temporary home with some folks who are doing their best to care for her.  They've got a donate button up, so if you can help out, it seems they'd appreciate it.  Sketches is a cute little marvel of a beast.  To paraphrase D.H. Lawrence, I've never know a wild thing to feel sorry for itself.

Resting from our labors

In keeping with the finest Labor Day tradition (i.e. Resting from said Labor) I'd like to present a few archival pics of Maddie and Ivy reaping their much deserved reward after strenuous kitty-work.

Yes, I'm aware that, in this context, "archival" really means "John, you've already posted those photos".  I hope you'll accept an explanation that involves not having batteries for the camera and being too incredibly lame to go get more.  Rest assured, Maddie has not gotten any less beautiful.

On to a rare Non-Cat note:  If you've ever cooked and really enjoyed a) the process b) the results or c) the rave reviews of those you've served, you owe it to yourself to visit The Crepes of Wrath.  This fine, fine, fine cooking blog is done by Sydney, who is up for a Country Living Bloggers award!  LadyRanger and I have made several of Sydney's recipes and have thoroughly enjoyed each and every one.  I urge you to visit her website, marvel at the food (and the really really good food photography), find a recipe to make soon, and then go vote for her.  And if you can manage to vote in the finest Tammany Hall tradition (early and often) then do that!  You'll be helping a deserving person.  The only thing lacking in Sydney's blog are cat photos.  And since she's given us such a marvelous amount of good food, we forgive her that oversight.  Go!  Now!  Click links!  Drool!  Vote!

Wistful/Watchful

It's been a bit of a wistful week.  We got the news that Sissy Willis had lost her beloved Tiny.  We send our deepest sympathies, and hope that their memories of her bring peace, as our memories of Ivy bring peace to us.

Ivy in kitchen3
Piece?  Sweet!  Piece of ham?  Piece of turkey?  Piece of lovely, delectable, wonderful Laughing Cow Spreadable Cheese?!?  Nom!!!!

And then, we read that Laurence is feeling Nardo's age, even if Nardo isn't, and reminding us that all wonderful things have a limited time here on earth.

All this on top of Maddie's case of goopy-eye topped with a rotten tooth.  We are quite paranoid.  We've been giving Maddie the once-over several times a day.  Every sniff, sneeze, sigh, quirk are scrutinized to be sure it's not a sign of the impending end.  I think our girl is quite fed up with us.

Misc 4-11 002
You have no idea.  I'm fine.  Trust me.  AND KEEP THAT THERMOMETER ON YOUR OWN DARN SIDE OF THE ROOM!!!!

As for us, we'll be glad when Maddie's next senior-kitty check-up happens and Dr G tells us that Maddie is doing good.  And we'll revel in every single minute we have with our cat.

Harrumph

Hi all.  Sorry, but no new pics today.  Typepad is telling me that there is "...No device found to store the file..." when I try to upload pics today.  If anyone has any experience with this issue, I'd appreciate some insight.  I've got a help ticket in and we'll see what the dudes say.

Maddie is doing well.  She's going in for her knee-exam on Tuesday.  We hope that the doc says that we can let her out of the Mewlag.  If so, well, you wanna talk about a Party!  We figure, worst-case, it'll be next tuesday that we can let her out, as that's the 8-week anniversary of the surgery and the doc had been talking about 8 weeks.  We're hoping for 7 though.  Wish Maddie luck.

I've some special guest cats for you when Typepad gets its act together.  Hope it's soon.

Oh Noes, Shaggy!

Out friends at Scooby, Shaggy and Scout's Place are having difficult times.  There was Scooby's encounter with a neighborhood feral.  Thankfully he seems to be recovering.  Unfortunately, now Shaggy is having difficulties.  It seems that he's had an infection (for which he's being treated) but now he's not eating.  if you can think of anything yummy that might be tempting to a kitty in the throes of illness, stop by and let them know, or just deliver good wishes and cheer.  Here's a pic of Shaggy in happier times.

Let's all hope the happier times return soon!

Oh noes Scooby!

Heard of some Trauma over at Scooby, Shaggy and Scout's Place!  Scooby got jumped by a feral cat.  In his own yard!  That is *so* not supposed to happen.  This is what you can expect when cats don't have other cats around to teach them good manners.  Scout, you are one lucky guy to have two good mentors in your home.

Scooby got punctured in the hind-area.  Nice, neat puncture wound, missed in the initial vet visit but found once it started to, well, ooze.  The victim is now on anti-biotics and is having a warm compress applied regularly to his shaved spot.  Here's a pic (shamelessly stolen from SSS's mom and inserted here) of Scooby in his Safe Place, recuperating:

Scooby
Best of luck, and an easy, treat-filled, recovery, Scooby!  It should be easy with Shaggy there to lick your head.

Y'see, *this* is why Maddie doesn't trust other cats.

Play with me

Darn Tootin'!  Don't trust 'em...don't like 'em!  Violent creatures!  Why...I even have to watch myself when I go by a mirror, 'cause I never know what I might do!!  RAWR!!

Well, I'm pretty sure that even Maddie wishes Scooby a quick and complete recovery.

A note for SSS's Mom:  I tried to leave a comment the other eve, but Blogger sign-in and I are not seeing eye to eye....Thus, you get my best wishes through this forum.  I hope you don't mind me reposting Scooby's picture.  If you'd like to me take it down, just let me  know.

Best Wishes!
